At 2019 ILSB, Dorothy will be talking about making a name for yourself in the field, which promises to be no less insightful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plenary:<\/strong><em>The (Dis)Comfort Zone<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Like teaching methodologies and theories of grammar, teacher narratives are shaped by trends and fashions. Cresting the wave in 2019 is the idea of the \u201ccomfort zone,\u201d notably as a place teachers should endeavor to leave. In this talk, I\u2019ll look at the science behind the comfort zone, as well as some other unhelpful teacher narratives, and then not only discuss what to do when confronted by them in the workplace or on social media but propose a kinder, more realistic, and more helpful model of personal and professional development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop<\/strong><em><strong> (60-minute session)&nbsp;<\/strong>Let\u2019s Get Visible<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re a dynamic, trained professional with something to say\u2026 but you\u2019re not famous enough to be getting invitations to present here and publish there.
